The Yarra Valley is a very old and famous wine region located northeast of Melbourne in the Victoria region of Australia, well-respected for the complex wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and the production of very elegant and vibrant sparkling wines. The Burgundian grapes are among the finest in the country ranging from powerful oaked wines to elegant restrained styles. The Yarra Valley is considered to be the coolest wine region in the country due to its high altitude of more than 500m above sea level and to the hilly landscape both of which are responsible for one of the most distinctive terroir wines of Australia.
